The origin of Lunkad is from Solanki rajputs. In VS 1001, Acharya Dhaneshwar Suri enlighted many peopple in nana and named 12 gotras.

The people doing the business of oil were named Tilora and Tilosra. Narvahan Solanki of Mathura was also there with other solankies and their gotras were named Solanki, Nagda-Solanki.

The kuldevi of these gotras is Shri Amba Mataji of Ambaji.
